June 2019 Life Update (+ Fun Links!)

brielle friedman newsletter | July 2019

Hello! How have you been?

The last few weeks have been jam-packed but in the best way possible. After months of feeling uncertain and anxious about whether working for myself is actually going to work out, I finally feel like it is. And I am so, so grateful for that.

If you’ve watched my Instagram story lately then you know I’m in the middle of reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and using the KonMari Method to de-clutter my life. I’m about halfway done and I can already see the ways in which tidying up my space is changing my perspective, my energy, and the way I move through the world. I’m really excited to finish this process and see the final effects!

I’ve also been tracking my period with the Flo app and really enjoying everything I’m learning about my body. I had no idea how much the changes in my hormones affect my mood and physical energy level! It feels really powerful and grounding to understand why I’m reacting the way that I am in certain situations (like why I burst into tears and couldn’t stop crying the moment I realized I missed my flight out to Seattle last month).

In June, I also joined the Wing, a co-working and community space for women. I’d been thinking about joining since October, but I kept putting it off for one reason or another. Whenever I thought about sitting down and filling out an application, I always came up with a reason to wait just one more month. At first, I worried it was too much of an extravagance, something I shouldn’t spend money on when my business is still so young and I can work from home or coffee shops. Then, I worried I wouldn’t use the physical space enough, and that I’d feel like I wasted money on the membership.

But the idea of having a co-working space kept coming back to me, especially one that was aesthetically pleasing with beautiful showers and ‘beauty rooms’ where I could get ready after rehearsal and before a meeting. I could envision the ways in which it would make my life easier and less stressful, especially because the Wing has several different locations throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan. So, I finally stopped making excuses, gave myself permission, and joined.

It’s been a month and I’m so happy with my decision. I love having a space to work outside of my apartment, and I love walking into a professional space with so many women!

Did you make any changes or decisions in your life last month that have impacted you in a big way? Did you put it off for a long time even though you knew it was the right choice like I did? Reply to this email. I’d love to know!

A Few Other Things…

😂 These Myers-Briggs Tinder bios made me laugh.

🎧 So did this Reply All episode about the most humiliating, unfortunate and regrettable things on the internet that simply will not come down.

📚 I couldn’t put down Educated by Tara Westover. It’s by far the most powerful book I’ve read in a long time.
